DepEd to probe online cheating – Briones

By Christine Fabro

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday (Sept. 20) denounced the alleged online cheating by some students who struggle with distance learning.

According to Education Secretary Leonor Briones, the DepEd is already addressing the issue of cheating among students who join Facebook groups where they can share notes and answers to modules.

“We are now seeking the assistance of the authorities and tracing kasi mayroon naman talagang – may questions kasi diyan at saka may [answer] key tayo for questions – kung na-leak ba ‘yan or napunta sa mga estudyante o nagkopyahan, kailangang imbestigahin natin ‘yan,” Briones said in a Malacañang public briefing.

Briones said cheating in schools is a “lingering issue”, however, the DepEd will not tolerate such form of dishonesty among students.

“We will take steps and we already are in touch with the appropriate authorities because we will not tolerate it at least in education,” Briones said.

“Ang question ng cheating ay hindi lamang question sa education, hindi lamang sa eksamen sa edukasyon at question ‘yan sa buong lipunan ng Pilipinas at saka iyang question ng cheating in schools ay lingering ano ‘yan, issue ‘no. Hindi dyina-justify, I’m saying that it is there and we will not tolerate it,” she added.

The Education department also urged parents to moderate their children’s use of social media and stop them from cheating. – rir
