‘Undas’ 2021: Public, private cemeteries to temporarily close in Manila

Public and private memorial parks, cemeteries, columbaria in Manila City will be temporarily closed from Oct. 29 to Nov. 3 in accordance with an executive order issued on Sept. 29.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso signed the Executive Order (EO) No. 33 ordering the closure of cemeteries within the vicinity of Manila including Manila North Cemetery, Manila South Cemetery, and Manila Muslim Cemetery.

This is in relation to this year’s “Undas” amid the threats of the COVID-19 spread.

Under EO 33, only “internment and cremation services for non-COVID 19 cases shall be allowed subject to the strict observance of minimum public health standards and social distancing.”

According to the statement, Moreno said that failure to comply with EO 33 shall lead to the revocation of its Mayor and business permits.

Last year, cemeteries and colambaria in the National Capital Region (NCR) and areas with high number of COVID-19 cases were also ordered closed by the local authorities to curb the possible spread of COVID-19. – Report from PTV News / CF – bny
