STS Maring leaves Region 1 areas flooded

Severe Tropical Storm Maring has left several areas in Region 1 flooded due to non-stop heavy rains during its onslaught on Monday (Oct. 11).

In Ilocos Norte, the Madongan Dam was almost impossible to pass due to increased water flow following heavy downpour.

Floodwater level also submerged several houses in Espiritu Village in Brgy. Poblacion Norte in Ilocos Sur.

Uniformed personnel and responders have already conducted rescue operations to affected residents, including the Tayug Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) in Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, a total of 8,820 individuals or 3,151 families were affected by Maring in La Union. Agricultural damage was so far estimated at nearly P200,000.

More than 200 families were also evacuated in seven towns in Pangasinan. Motorists have been advised to avoid several major roads due to rising water levels and high tide.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assured that there are sufficient food packs for affected residents in the region. – Report from Joanne Dilim (PIA La Union)/AG-rir
