President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the inauguration of the Sariaya Bypass Road in Lucena City on Thursday (Oct. 21).

The President commended the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along with its project partners for the completion of the project. The road spans “more than 70 kilometers starts at the Manila South Road Daang Maharlika Road and ends at the Quezon Eco tourism Road.”

He said that this milestone “affirms the administration’s strong commitment to improve the quality of life of Filipinos by pursuing strategic infra projects across the country thereby improving connectivity, increasing the people’s mobility and creating jobs and dispersing economic activity throughout the regions.”

Duterte added that the road will also be an “efficient” way to transport goods to and from the markets of Southern Luzon. Moreover, the traffic along Daang Maharlika from Saraiya to Lucena will be reduced by 40%.

“It will likewise spur the growth of industries and business opportunities in the area thereby boosting the socio-economic development of Quezon province and improve the lives of the people.”

The Chief Executive then emphasized the vital role of infrastructure development in successfully reopening the country’s economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As we continue to overcome the current pandemic and carefully reopen our national and local economies, infrastructure development will play a vital role in our success.”

“Indeed, we can fully achieve inclusive growth when the countryside development is pursued. Improve mobility including efficient access of goods and services will lead to greater productivity and progress,” he said. -rir
