26 Bohol ARBs graduate on rice block farming

Twenty-six (26) agrarian reform beneficiary-members of the Calatrava Farmers Association in Calatrava, Carmen, Bohol graduated recently from the Farm Business School (FBS) on rice block farming of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) during a ceremony held in Calatrava.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Dr. Ronald Pumatong said the FBS is a climate-resilient farm productivity support project of DAR, particularly on rice block farming to boost rice production in the area by consolidating their lands to manage their lands collectively in order to produce more.

The 26 ARB members of the Calatrava Farmers Association will adopt a new farming technology where they can maximize production and become business rice farmers.
He disclosed that the initiative is part of the major crop-based block farm productivity enhancement project under the Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support (CRFPS) project of the DAR.

“Considering that individual ARBs own only small pieces of land, block farming will allow the farmers to make their areas become contiguous, which will eventually increase their crop yield and boost the cooperative’s rice production,” Pumatong said.

He stressed that CRFPS is geared toward the goal of building the resiliency of agrarian reform communities nationwide to enhance and sustain the agricultural productivity of farmers’ organizations, by increasing their yield and income to uplift the lives of its members.

One of the graduates, Porferia Viodor, was all smiles as she presented the comparison of yield and yield components showing an increase of yield as the outcome of their training. (DAR) -rir
