Malaysia, Singapore to waive quarantine requirement for air travel

Xinhua News Agency

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia and Singapore will waive quarantine requirements for travelers flying between the two countries with the launch of a vaccinated travel lane (VTL), Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said on Monday (Nov. 8).

The agreement, which will take effect starting Nov. 29, means families which have been separated will finally be able to reunite, according to a joint press statement from the Prime Minister’s Office of Malaysia and the Prime Minister’s Office of Singapore.

“Given the significant progress that both countries have made in vaccinating their respective populations and managing the COVID-19 pandemic, the prime ministers agreed that it is timely to progressively resume cross-border travel between both countries in a safe manner,” the statement said.

The VTL only covers air travel from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Singapore’s Changi Airport and does not include the bridge links connecting the two countries, with talks still underway on resuming overland travel. (Xinhua) – bny
