DILG welcomes provinces’ mandatory vaccination support

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) welcomed the League of Provinces of the Philippines’ support to the COVID-19 mandatory vaccination.

LPP President and Marinduque Gov. Presbitero Velasco Jr. said provincial LGUs are ready to legislate this undertaking in their localities.

“In terms of supply and logistics, walang problema. Ang problema ngayon ‘yung ating mga kababayan na namimili ng bakuna o ‘yung tinatawag na vaccine preference, at pangalawa ‘yung vaccine hesitancy,” DILG USec. Jonathan Malaya said.

“’Yun ang kailangan nating pagtulungan, kaya naman ikinatutuwa namin itong posisyon ng LPP. And kung maipapasa nila ‘yung kani-kanilang ordinansa, malaking tulong ito kung gagawin nating mandatory ang vaccination,” he added.

The official noted the importance of protecting everyone against COVID-19 as a moral and ethical duty.

NCR at 100%

The National Capital Region (NCR) has already vaccinated 100% of its target population, with 90% or 8.8 million individuals completing their vaccine doses.

The vaccination is set to continue in the region with the signing of a memorandum of agreement for additional dentist vaccinators between the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Rotary Club of Manila, and the Philippine Dental Association (PDA).

The PDA has around 200 dentists in Metro Manila, and all of them committed to help.

Meanwhile, MMDA Chairperson Benhur Abalos said they are ready to help in the vaccination program of neighboring provinces, such as Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas.

This is just time as the government is set to launch a three-day National Vaccination Day by month’s end. – Report from Patrick de Jesus/AG-rir
