ULAP wants LGUs to decide on face shield use

By Alec Go

Quirino Governor and President of Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) Dakila Cua asked that local government units (LGUs) be given the authority to decide on the face shield policy.

This was amid the ongoing discussions on whether or not to limit the use of face shields in medical and close settings as daily COVID-19 cases continue to decline nationwide.

“Iyang face shield siguro ay kung pupuwede po ibigay na sa LGU ang desisyon. Anyway it’s an additional layer of safety,” Cua said in the Nov. 13 Laging Handa briefing.

“Si LGU na po ang mag-determine according to their doctors kung kailangan bang mag-face shield in certain circumstances at sila na rin ang magpatupad,” he added.

The Office of the President (OP) has yet to issue a decision on the matter after receiving the recommendation of the Department of Health (DOH) and other experts.

Cua said they will support the decision of the national government.

Meanwhile, several LGUs were able to “adjust” with the current Alert Level System that has been expanded to cover areas outside Metro Manila due to its “staggered implementation.”

Vax issues

The ULAP leader called on the religious sector to help in the government’s vaccination drive, and noted the provision of incentives amid hesitancy and brand preference among the public,

He said several provinces have observed a decline in vaccination demand in areas that have vaccinated 40% to 50% of their target population.

“Talagang kailangan magbigay ng incentives and these incentives whether in policy, in privilege or actual items or actual services or program for incentives,” he said. –rir
