PRC backs opening of face-to-face classes in Oslob, Cebu

Aiming to reach even the farthest regions of the country, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) volunteers and staff traveled for hours to get to a mountainous high school with a population of 275 Students and 14 faculty members in the Municipality of Oslob, Cebu.

As limited face-to-face classes begin this week in more than 100 schools nationwide, PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon directed PRC Cebu Chapter to help guide parents, guardians, and teachers everyone can stay safe despite the ongoing pandemic.

“Dapat di natin alintana kung gaano kalayo ang nangangailangan ng ating suporta. Tayo mismo ang lalapit sa kanila,” Gordon said.

While in Cañang- Marcelo Luna National Highschool, Brgy, Cañang, the Chapter conducted the following activities; distributed COVID- 19 leaflets and posters, provided an overview on the importance of cleaning, and disinfection in schools, and turned over PPE’s from activity partner USAID.

Volunteers and staff also conducted a hygiene promotion activity including proper food handling, the proper use and disposal of face masks, hand hygiene at critical times to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and respiratory etiquette.

Meanwhile, PRC Cebu Chapter expects to implement more programs early next year since a new PRC branch will formally open in Naga by mid-January that serves as an expansion for the southern part of Cebu. (PR) – bny
