PSC-IP Games continue in Benguet

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), through the Office of Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey, on Friday (Nov. 19) continued on its effort to preserve the traditional sports with the staging of a modified version of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) Games to reach their IP stakeholders amid the pandemic.

The traditional sports and games of the IP communities in the Province of Benguet were recorded for showcase and documentation in the spirit of the preservation, promotion, and propagation of culture.

“We’re happy and very thankful to Gov. Melchor Diclas and other officials as well as to tribe leaders for their understanding and support. Dahil sa pandemya, nilimitahan namin ang partisipasyon ng mga katutubo sa documentation and recording,” Maxey said.

“We strictly followed safety and health protocol during and after the program and the PSC coordinated to all officials and agencies concerned in conducting the IP Games here in Tublay, Benguet,” he added.

The traditional sports and games demonstration recording project will be implemented in partnership with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples. The members of the PSC-IPG-Technical Working Group (TWG) visited and inspected Tublay, Benguet as identified locations for the documentation of the Games of Benguet. The other location for the documentation is at the Admiral’s Park.

Before the traditional opening dance, the PSC presented Gov. Diclas and the Provincial Government of Benguet with Certificates of Appreciation for their continued support to the Commission.

The PSC also distributes personalized tokens and sports supplies and equipment for the development of sports for youth in the province.  These supplies include 500 bags with notebooks and pens, notepads, and towels, 50 volleyballs, 25 footballs, 25 basketballs, and 5 gongs with beaters.

The traditional sports and games demonstration recording project will be implemented in partnership with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and sponsored by Pocari Sweat. (PR) – bny
