Davao City is inching its way to getting one million residents fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In her regular radio program on Monday, Mayor Sara Z. Duterte said a total of 1,010,811 residents got their first doses, while 908,101 have been fully vaccinated.

“Are we confident? We will rather not say. We will not promise but we will try to achieve the demand of the national government to hit the target herd immunity in Davao City,” she said.

The city government is aiming to fully vaccinate at least 1.2 million to achieve the population protection target.

Duterte also said that she is optimistic that the number would increase as the city will take part in the “Bayanihan Bakunahan,” a three-day vaccination drive starting November 29 to December 1. “We have an expectation that many will participate in this event,” she said.

“Bayanihan Bakunahan” aims to administer five million vaccine doses daily over the three-day vaccination drive in December. Mayor Sara said the Department of Health (DOH) has an ongoing inspection of the city’s vaccination sites in preparation for the activity.

“With regards to the vaccination, there is no need to wait for that big event for you to get vaccinated. We can do it as early as today. We have a lot of vaccination sites who accept walk-ins and also have mobile vaccinations,” she said.

Duterte added that the public should get vaccinated at the soonest possible time.

“Do not wait for big events like this, our vaccination sites and those operated by the private sector are also open. As early as today, you can get that jab,” she added. (PNA)-rir
