QC starts administering booster shots to senior citizens and immunocompromised individuals

Less than a week since the start of administering booster shots to healthcare workers, phase one of the injection of booster shots for senior citizens and for immunocompromised individuals started today (Nov. 22) in Quezon City.

A ceremonial vaccination was held at East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City.

It was led by the Department of Health (DOH) Sec. Francisco Duque III, vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr, and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairperson Benhur Abalos.

Duque emphasized the importance of booster shots to further reduce the number of severe and critical COVID-19 cases, especially amid studies showing waning immunity of some vaccines.

“Kapag ikaw ay senior, kaya nga ngayon binu-booster natin ang seniors kasi pag naramdaman na nila, huli na, baka nasa ICU na sila o ICU no more,” Duque said.

The country aims to vaccinate 8.2 million senior citizens and 8.4 million persons with comorbidities.

According to Duque, the country aims to finish this vaccination within 16 working days. – Report from Mark Fetalco/PG-rir
