Baguio to vaccinate 100% of target population by year end

Baguio City Health Services Office is aiming to vaccinate 100% of the city’s eligible population against COVID-19 before the year ends, despite having vaccinated its 70% population target for herd immunity.

Based on latest data, 276,029 or 98.23% of Baguio’s eligible population have been given their first dose, while 238,088 or 84.72% are considered fully vaccinated.

A total of 28,046 or 65.51% out of the city’s over 42,000 pediatric population have been given their initial dose, while 16,200 or 37% are fully vaccinated.

“Baguio City has been doing its best to cater to our first doses. We hope na by the end of December ay makapag-100% na tayo with the additional registration of our unvaccinated,” Assistant City Health Services Officer Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes said.

The city government will focus on second dose and booster or third shot administration after completely covering its adult and pediatric population amid the threat of the Omicron variant.

Brillantes said the prioritization of booster shots will be observed depending on supply availability.

“We really have to increase our booster doses, especially nakita naman natin ang effect ng ating mga first and second doses sa ating mga variants of concern,” she said.

“Kung ganoon na may two doses na very maganda ang protection ng ating mga tao against COVID-19, why don’t we do the booster doses then on them?” she added.

To date, more than 8,600 individuals have been given booster shots in the summer capital. – Report from Jorton Campana (PTV Cordillera)/AG-rir
