Dasmariñas City woodpusher continues winning ways at 2021 National Chess tilt

International Master Daniel Maravilla Quizon scored his fifth straight victory in the 2021 Philippine National Chess Championship (Barkadahan Para sa Bansa) FIDE-rated over-the-board Chess Championships on Saturday (Dec. 11) held at the Solea Hotel and Resort in Mactan, Cebu.

Playing white, Quizon won over Grandmaster Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. in the fifth round to improve his score to a total of 5 points and remain on top of the 12-player-field, single-round tournament organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).

International Master Ricardo de Guzman split the point with International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia to climb at no.2 spot with 4 points.

Garcia, on the other hand, raised his total to 3 points. It was the same output of International Master Paulo Bersamina and International Master Ronald Dableo.

In other results, Grandmaster Darwin Laylo subdued Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna while International Master John Marvin Miciano drew with International Master Michael Concio Jr.

Quizon had also won earlier in the fourth round against Frayna. (PR) – bny
