12 Caraga LGUs under state of calamity due to Odette

Twelve local government units (LGUs) in the Caraga Region have declared a state of calamity due to the impact of Typhoon Odette which has destroyed roads, houses, posts, and commercial establishments.

Initial tally of the Caraga Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) show that 58,309 families or over 200,000 individuals were affected as of Dec. 19.

Five individuals reportedly died, three were injured, and seven are missing. The RDRRMC has yet to confirm the casualty reports.

The supply of basic commodities is also facing challenges in the provinces of Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte, with several reported looting incidents in Dinagat.

Six roads remain impassable due to debris, posing a challenge to LGUs’ relief efforts.

Meanwhile, the Surigao City government coordinated with small mini marts and small variety stores that can still operate to support the supply needs of residents. – Report from Doreen Marielle Rosales (PIA Caraga)/AG-rir
