Rain showers continue to prevail across PH

Most parts of the country will continue to experience rain showers due to the shear line and northeast monsoon or “amihan,” the weather bureau said on Friday (Jan. 14).

In its 4:00 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region will still experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the shear line affecting the eastern section of Mindanao.

Isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of Mindanao.

PAGASA said flash floods or landslides are likely during moderate to heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

The northeast monsoon will continue to bring light rains over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.

Likewise, it will bring isolated light rains over the rest of Luzon and the Visayas.

Samuel Duran, PAGASA weather forecaster, said there is no weather disturbance inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Moderate to strong winds, moderate to rough seas will prevail over Luzon, the Visayas, and the eastern and western portions of Mindanao.

Strong to gale-force winds associated with the surge of the northeast monsoon is forecast over northern and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon, eastern seaboard of central Luzon, western seaboard of northern Luzon, eastern seaboard of southern Luzon and the Visayas, and the eastern seaboard of Mindanao.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small seacrafts not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) -ag
