Magnitude 5.2 quake hits Batanes

MANILA – A magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolted Batanes early Wednesday (Jan. 19), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake struck 31 km. northeast of Itbayat at 3:10 a.m. It had a depth of 14 km.

Phivolcs has not recorded any reported intensities based on its earthquake bulletin issued at 3:20 a.m.

Damage is unlikely but aftershocks are possible from the magnitude 5.2 tremor, Phivolcs said.
