Davao-Marawi route to help revive, sustain IDPs livelihood

The opening of inter-regional routes touching the Bangsamoro region, particularly the Davao to Marawi route, would contribute to sustaining the livelihood interventions of the government and bring back the vibrant trade and commerce in the area.

This was conveyed by ASec. Felix Castro Jr., field office manager of Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), who disclosed that around 38% of the rehabilitation fund was dedicated to livelihood interventions.

“Napakagandang oportunidad ito para ibangon natin ang kabuhayan ng ating mga kababayan sa Marawi. At nagagalak kami na may partner kami sa DOTr at LTFRB na nagpoprogram at nagpaplano kung paano pagandahin ang kabuhayan ng ating mga kababayang Meranaw,” he said.

The TFBM field office manager noted that Meranaw people are entrepreneurs and trading is one of their major sources of livelihood. But since trading involves the movement of goods, he said a large amount of the expenses goes to transportation costs.

“With this route, they now have the opportunity at a lesser cost to transport the goods from Davao,” he said.

Castro also said the TFBM is happy that a cooperative from Marawi will likewise have the opportunity to service one of the inter-regional routes, the Iligan City to Marawi City route.

According to LTFRB, 27 Class 2 PUJs operated by MSU- Marawi Iligan Transport Services Corporation will ply the Iligan to Marawi route. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
