PRRD: Next administration must continue war on drugs

By Pearl Gumapos

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday (Feb. 28) said whoever sits as the country’s next president should continue the Duterte administration’s campaign against illegal drugs.

“Itong drugs, I hope that whoever will sit as president would continue–if not the ferocity that I did. Mas kailangan [na] a little lower than my standard,” Duterte said during his address to the nation.

“I’m so worried about the resurgence of the drug problem. It simply drives me crazy. Itong mga ito na pinuputulan iyong ulo ng asawa mo, it is happening everyday. It has been there since the inception of the drug problem,” he said.

Duterte then reiterated that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is not among his concerns, stating his hope that the next president will find the resolve to continue the war on drugs

“Nevermind about the ICC. Wala akong pakialam diyan. It does not worry me a bit. Itong sa drugs, I just hope that somebody would find the resolve to continue with the drive against drugs because it will destroy our country,” he said.

“We’re getting old. As a matter of fact, we’re about to make the exit na. Ang problema is the next generation. We have to protect the next generation, because, if not, they will have a serious problem in their hands.” – ag
