NCR cops nab 607 gun ban violators in 2 months

MANILA – A total of 607 violators were arrested and more than 500 firearms and other deadly weapons were seized in checkpoints in Metro Manila pursuant to the election gun ban implementation for the past three months, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Thursday (March 10).

In a statement, the NCRPO said 14,320 gun ban checkpoints manned by police and soldiers and 524 other police operations yielded 234 firearms, 67 other deadly weapons, 324 bladed/pointed weapons, one grenade, 13 explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and 2,760 pieces of ammunition were confiscated from January 9 to March 9 police operations.

Of the 607 persons arrested, 410 were arrested during police patrol/response, 150 during Oplan Sita/Bakal operations, 39 in checkpoints, four during the implementation of search warrants, and four during the service of warrants of arrest.

NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Felipe Natividad vowed to intensify security operations and gun ban implementation to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of this year’s polls.

He lauded the personnel on the ground for doing their job well and also solicited the cooperation of the public to abide by the election gun ban.

The implementation of the nationwide gun ban will last until June 8 this year. (PNA)
