Duterte inaugurates new, modern cancer facilities in Davao

President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday (March 25) led the inauguration of cancer facilities at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City that “will surely help ease the burden carried by the patients and their families.”

During the inauguration of the Cancer Diagnostic Institute Building and Cancer Treatment Facility Building, Duterte commended the SPMC and the Department of Health (DOH), together with the government’s private partners “for investing in the improvement of the healthcare services in the region.”

“This feat makes me glad for it is indeed a huge leap that will help address the health needs of our people,” he said. “No longer will our cancer patients need to travel far just to receive the necessary treatment and care.”

“I am confident, together with the devotion of the medical frontliners, this project will make a long lasting and life changing impact in the healthcare sector and in the lives of the generations of Mindanao people,” he added.

The Chief Executive also urged health practitioners to provide the “necessary attention to non-COVID-19 cases” which treatment and interventions might have been affected or delayed by restrictions imposed due to the pandemic.

“It is also my hope that public and private hospitals across the country will be inspired to further improve their services to our fellow Filipinos,” he said.

“This project will have a long lasting positive effect in addressing public healthcare concerns in the region and in the lives of many of our kababayans,” he added.

The facility projects are worth P528,556,789 and P365 million and are funded by the Office of the President through the DOH’s Health Facility Enhancement Program and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation. AG -rir
