Campaign rallies ‘one last push’ to pursue undecided voters – analyst

Campaign rallies are candidates’ “one last push” to pursue undecided voters ahead of the May 2022 polls, a political analyst said Tuesday, April 19.

Froilan Calilung, a political science expert, said as the elections polls near, the public “will actually go out and make their formal decision” as to who they will vote for in the coming election.

“I think ito ‘yung tinatawag natin na one last push na kung saan ‘yung ating mga kandidato ay kumukuha ng tinatawag nating voter mileage,” Calilung noted in the Laging Handa briefing.

“Kung saka-sakali ‘yung undecided voters, they are willing to actually have them as swing votes to their favor,” he added, citing a study conducted by PUBLiCUS where it found that 77% of voters are hard voters.

Hard voters are voters who are already highly decided and may not likely change their mind on election day.

“So that’s 77% ano, 16% among them may not change their mind and only 1% is most likely going to change their mind and in towards the election day. So maliit na maliit na porsyento kung titingnan natin ‘yung mga magbabago pa ng isip batay nga doon sa pag-aaral na ‘yun,” Calilung said.

“So I think what these rallies are doing right now, is further cementing ‘yung tinatawag nating strong voter base, particularly for those candidates na talagang mayroong malawak na suporta from their hard voting base kumbaga.” – ag
