The investigation and gathering of evidence are ongoing on the shooting incident in presidential candidate Ka Leody De Guzman’s meeting with indigenous peoples in Bukidnon on Tuesday, April 19.
In a press statement, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is “premature to say that the motive is election-related” pending the collection of enough evidence and the determination of circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Details remain sketchy since lumalabas sa initial investigation na there is no proper coordination sa authorities regarding sa pagpunta sa property na may standing court case,” the statement read.
“It was unfortunate dahil walang mapagtanungan ang responding PNP units in the area in an attempt to gather vital information for the filing of appropriate charges,” it added.
A victim is undergoing treatment for a right foot gunshot wound. The PNP is still trying to get statements from the patient, and vowed to continue its probe.
Meanwhile, it reminded poll candidates and the public to coordinate with authorities “so the PNP can provide security assistance” to prevent any untoward incidents. – KC-ag
