Espinosa recants claims vs De Lima, DOJ says it’s pointless

The Department of Justice (DOJ) said recanted allegations of self confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa against detained Senator Leila De Lima “will not affect” the senator’s pending cases.

In the April 29 Laging Handa briefing, DOJ Undersecretary Adrian Sugay repeated what Prosecutor General Benedicto Malcontento has stated over the sudden retraction of Espinosa.

“I understand na ang statement ng Office of the Prosecutor General dito is that he is not a witness in any of the cases, pending cases, or for pending criminal cases against Senator Leila De Lima,” Sugay said.

Sugay added that the DOJ is already looking for a liability on the end of Espinosa over the inconsistency of his two statements.

“Tintignan ‘yan ngayon ng ating Office of the Prosecutor General kung puwede ngang makasuhan kase nga magkaiba ‘yung kanyang naging statement,” he said.

In Espinosa’s latest affidavit, he said that the police allegedly threatened his family which resulted in his allegations against De Lima in the drug trade. -VC-ag
