The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has named Director John Rex Laudiangco as acting spokesperson of the poll body.

In a memorandum released on Friday, May 6, Comelec Chairperson Saidamen Pangarungan said Laudiangco will replace former spokesperson James Jimenez.

“You are hereby designated as Acting Spokesperson of the Commission, effective immediately,” Laudiangco’s appointment paper read.

“You shall report to Commissioner George M. Garcia, the Commissioner-in-Charge (CIC) on Public Information and Education,” it further read.

Laudiangco serves as a director of the poll body’s Law Department.

Jimenez, meanwhile, congratulated Laudiangco on his designation.

“I offer him my heartiest congratulations and wish him all the best,” Jimenez said.

“For my part, I shall continue to serve as faithfully as I have these past 18 years, with due deference to the will and wisdom of the Commission,” he added.

Jimenez will remain as chief of the Comelec Education and Information Department. – BNY
