Reelectionist Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon conceded defeat and thanked his supporters on Tuesday, May 10, a day after the national and local polls and amid the current partial tallying of votes.

In a statement, the current Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairperson congratulated poll winners and wished them success and guidance as new leaders of the country.

“The people have spoken, and I bow to their will. I congratulate those who have won and wish them success in the enormous task that lies ahead. I will forever desire victory and unity for our country and I pray that the Lord guide all our newly elected leaders as they endeavor to move our nation forward,” he said.

“I thank all those who have supported me, worked with me, and fought with me over the last several months. To those who believed and stood with me to the end, I am deeply grateful,” he added.

Gordon, who also chairs the Philippine Red Cross, said he is honored to have served for 53 years even without a seat.

Based on the latest partial vote count, Gordon evaded the “Magic 12” and slipped to the 22nd spot.

“So we move forward today with courage, our heads held high, with no regrets, and even more committed to bring peace, prosperity, upliftment, and dignity to the life of every Filipino,” he said. – gb
