Malacañang congratulated winners of the recent May 9 national and local elections, as well as the country’s electorate for its cooperation in ensuring the peaceful and orderly conduct of polls.

The Philippine National Police earlier said that the election last Monday was generally peaceful despite reported incidents of election-related violence.

“We congratulate everyone for their cooperation in ensuring the 2022 national and local elections are generally peaceful and orderly,”  Acting Presidential Spokesperson said in a post-election day message on Wednesday, May 11.

“As we wait for the official and final results, we have to underscore that this year’s political exercise is a showcase of the strength of our democratic system and institutions.  Further, the high voter turnout is evidence of the growing political interest and maturity of our people,” he added.

As of Wednesday afternoon, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio are leading in the partial vote tally in the presidential and vice presidential race, with more than 31 million votes each.

For the senatorial race, actor Robin Padilla is taking the top spot with over 26 million votes, followed by Antique Rep. Loren Legarda and broadcaster Raffy Tulfo with more than 23 million votes each.

Several local officials have been proclaimed winners immediately after the polls.

“The Filipino people have spoken and now is the time to heal and unite as one nation and one people. To the winners, our advanced congratulations as you embark on new responsibilities and challenges of your office,” Andanar said. – gb
