Rains to prevail across Luzon, Mindanao; fair weather in Visayas

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, May 20, said most areas in Luzon and Mindanao will get rain showers, while the Visayas will have fair weather.

“Because of the southwesterly surface windflow, many areas in Luzon will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms,” Benison Estareja of PAGASA said.

He added that the regions of Ilocos and Cordillera and the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac and Pampanga should take precautions against possible flooding and landslides.

“(Those in) Metro Manila and nearby areas should still bring an umbrella as rains are highly likely around 1 p.m.,” he said.

For the rest of the country, Estareja said localized thunderstorms are forecast in the afternoon or evening.

“The Visayas will have generally fair weather, and warm at noon, with the temperature reaching up to 32 °C. There are chances of rains in the afternoon,” he said.

Thunderstorms are highly likely in Mindanao in the afternoon or evening.

Meanwhile, Estareja said no weather disturbance was seen until early next week.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas still prevail over extreme northern Luzon.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. – gb
