A total of 34,238 public and private schools across the country have been nominated to hold limited face-to-face classes, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones said Monday, May 30.

In the Laging Handa briefing, Briones said they are expecting that all schools in the country will hold in-person classes next school year in August.

“By June, which is already a few days away from now, the next academic school year, ini-expect natin na fully 100% na talaga ‘yung pag-implement natin ng face-to-face classes,” Briones said.

She noted that the format of face-to-face classes depends on the situation and the ability of schools.

Division offices of schools will implement their own guidelines to ensure the safety of students for the upcoming opening of face-to-face classes.

“‘Yung pag-approach natin dito sa face-to-face, magkaiba sa iba’t ibang eskuwelahan kasi depende sa sitwasyon nila, depende sa state of health at saka sa assessment ng Department of Health,” Briones said.

“Pero sa ngayon, ini-encourage din ng Department of Health na talagang tuluyan na nating gawin ang face-to-face,” she continued.

Briones also urged private schools to conduct in-person classes.

Meanwhile, face-to-face graduation and recognition rites for public schools under Alert Level 1 and 2 areas will be held from June 27 to July 2, while private schools can follow the schedule outlined in their school calendars. – gb
