By Myris Lee

Incoming Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) chief Atty. Ivan Uy shared on Friday, June 3, his forthcoming plans for the agency which includes wider internet coverage.

During the Laging Handa Briefing, he said president-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed him to prioritize the provision of internet connectivity to far-flung areas across the country.

“In-instruct po kami na tingnan kung paano natin maiaabot ang mga digital connectivity sa mga liblib na lugar upang maipasok at mabigyan ng access ang mga kababayan natin lalo na sa mga lugar na hindi inaabot ngayon ng internet,” Uy said.

The information technology expert shared that he will push for further cybercrime prevention during his term, as well as the cooperation with other government communications agencies for the transition from analog signals into digital signals.

“I think we need to sit down together and assess kung ano po ang status ng PCOO [Presidential Communications Operations Office] at itong mga government networks transforming from analog at digital,” he said.

Meanwhile, he lauded the digital workforce bill that aims to enhance the country’s digital workforce competitiveness, saying that it will greatly contribute to the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector. – ag
