Cebu gov: COVID-19 vaccination not required in offices, schools

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia reiterated on Monday, June 13, that COVID-19 vaccination is not a requirement among employees, educational institutions, and even in acquiring government services.

Through the Republic Act No. 11525 or known as COVID-19 Vaccination Program Act of 2021, Garcia reminded that the rural health units “should not be used” by government officials and school heads to discriminate against its employees, educators, students, and parents who are unvaccinated.

“In this regard, you are reminded to refrain from implementing or supporting policies that make vaccination mandatory for educational, employment, and other similar government purposes,” the memorandum read.

“Rural health units should not be used by Department of Education District Superintendents, District Supervisors, and School Heads in order to discriminate against unvaccinated teachers, students, or parents,” it further read.

Prior to Garcia’s memorandum, she earlier issued an executive order easing the mandatory wearing of face masks in outdoor settings amid its Alert Level 2 status. -KC/gb
