Marcos-Duterte tandem leads prexy, VP races
UniTeam’s presidential and vice presidential bets presume the country’s highest posts in the recent May 9 polls, based on the partial and unofficial tally by Comelec.
As of May 13, 98.35% of Election Returns reveal that presumptive president Bongbong Marcos had 31,104,175 votes, followed by Vice President Leni Robredo with 14,822,052.
In the vice presidential race, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is leading the count with 31,561,948 votes, followed by Sen. Kiko Pangilinan with 9,232,883.
Robin padilla tops senatorial race
Actor Robin Padilla, former journalist Loren Legarda, and broadcaster Raffy Tulfo are leading in the 2022 senatorial race based on the partial and unofficial tally.
Padilla leads with 26,454,562 votes as of May 13.
OCTA Research fellow Ranjit Rye said several factors, including Padilla’s popularity and strong support from President Rodrigo Duterte, have helped him lead the race.
Local, national elections ‘generally peaceful’
The Comelec on May 10 announced that the recently held 2022 national and local elections have been generally peaceful despite some election-related violent incidents.
The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) also described the May 9 elections as “generally peaceful, orderly and organized.”
However, “failure of elections” was declared in three municipalities in the province of Lanao del Sur.
Sara Duterte picked as next DepEd chief
Presidential frontrunner Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced May 11 that his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will be his education secretary once they assume posts.
“I think I am already authorized to announce the first nominee that we will be giving to the Commission on Appointments when the time comes should I be proclaimed. And that is that our incoming vice president has agreed to take the brief of the Department of Education,” he said.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on May 12 that the Philippine gross domestic product (GDP) posted an 8.3% increase in the first quarter of 2022 as the country further eased pandemic restrictions.
The Philippine economy grew by 7.8% in the last quarter of 2022.
According to PSA, manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade; motor vehicle and motorcycle repair and transportation are among the main contributors to GDP’s growth in the first quarter.
