23 volcanic quakes recorded in Mount Bulusan

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded 23 volcanic earthquakes at Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon in the past 24 hours.

The state volcanologists said the plume from the volcano’s crater measured 300 meters tall.

Meanwhile, the volcano released an average of 556 tonnes of sulfur dioxide per day on July 2.

The agency warned the public against entering into the 4 kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), while entry without vigilance into the Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) and even flying any aircraft close to the volcano are strictly prohibited.

Phivolcs also cautioned the public against sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.

The volcano is now under Alert level 1 which insinuates a low level of volcanic unrest. – gb
