Malacañang remained mum on Wednesday, July 6, on the proposal to rename Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to Ferdinand E. Marcos International Airport.
Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo Teves Jr. filed on Tuesday, July 5, House Bill 610 seeking to rename NAIA to Ferdinand E. Marcos International Airport (FEMIA).
In a press briefing, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said it would be “premature” to comment on the matter.
“Malacañang has no comment yet on this one. It’s just been filed after all, wala pang first reading, so any reaction would be premature, if even warranted at this time,” Cruz-Angeles said.
“This is not a bill filed by Malacañang. So it’s not our place to indicate whether it is timely or not, it was the congressman who filed it, so no comment for right now,” she added.
The former Manila International Airport was renamed after the late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. was assassinated on August 21, 1983. – gb
