DOTr chief notes MRT-3 improvements following surprise visit

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista has observed several improvements in the operations and facilities of the Metro Rail Transit Line (MRT-3) during his surprise visit in the rail line “riding incognito” as a passenger.

The DOTr said in its social media post that Bautista interacted with passengers from GMA Kamuning Station to Taft Avenue Station, where he was assured that they will continue to use the MRT despite the recent suspension of free rides.

Among the developments observed were clean restrooms with sufficient water supply.

Meanwhile, the recommendations made to Undersecretary for Rails Cesar Chavez and MRT-3 General Manager Ofelia Astrera include more platform waiting seats for senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities, as well as the accessibility of Consumer Welfare Desks for all passengers.

He also recommended placing additional X-ray machines, full ticket counter complement, the availability of Emergency Medical Technicians in all stations, the promotion of stored value tickets  instead of single journey tickets, and enhancements in onboard announcers. (PR) –LF-ag
