FIBA Asia Cup: Lebanon fends off gritty PH quintet

The Philippines showed grit and determination but fell short in their FIBA Asia Cup 2022 encounter against Lebanon, 80-95, on Wednesday (July 13) at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Gilas Pilipinas clawed back from as much as 22 points down (82-60), with SJ Belangel and Carl Tamayo leading the charge.

However, the Lebanese kept their composure in the final period, weathering the Philippines’ run.

Belangel led Gilas with 17 points, three assists and two steals. Tamayo and a returning Ray Parks chipped in 15 points each.

Wael Arakji led Lebanon with 20 points and four assists while Jonathan Arledge and Hayk Gyokchyan had 19 markers each.

The Philippines will next face India on Friday, July 15, and then New Zealand on Sunday, July 17. – bny
