The world’s oldest male giant panda, An An was euthanized at the age of 35 on Thursday, July 21, after his health deteriorated due to old age.

An An’s age was equivalent to 105 years to human age.

According to the Ocean Park in Hong Kong, his food intake declined until he stopped eating a few weeks before he passed away.

“Ocean Park is deeply saddened to announce the loss of An An,” it said in a statement.

An An lived at the ocean park since 1999 after the Chinese government gave him to Hong Kong along with Jia Jia, the world’s oldest female giant panda who passed away in 2016 at 38 years old.

The ocean park said that An An is an “indispensable member” of their family and that An An had built a “strong bond of friendship” with the locals and tourists of the park.

Only two remaining giant pandas left in the park, Ying Ying and Le Le. – gb
