Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez on Friday, July 22, refuted rumors that he has resigned from his post, saying that only “health reasons” and “family reasons” would push him to step down.
This was in response to queries citing a report that he is planning to quit due to alleged pressure within the inner circle of the Marcos administration.
“I’m just here. I hardly go out of my office. I don’t know how the rumor started,” he told reporters.
“The moment he or she [Cabinet] accepts the nomination and request coming from the President to help him serve and run the country, I think automatic ‘yon – the moment you said yes, automatic iyon na tinanggap mo na ring anytime you will be asked to leave,” he said. “But until that happens, then you stay.”
Rodriguez also denied allegations of extorting P100 million to individuals seeking office at the current administration, with Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) allegedly relaying the matter to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
“The amount is fantastic,” he said, adding that it is “unfair” for INC members “to be dragged into” rumors.
“As you know, we are being followed and hounded by fake news as early as the campaign. And I think it will continue that way for as long as he is the President. We will only explain things that are coming from verifiable source or sources,” he said. – With reports from Mela Lesmoras-ag
