Coco research center to rise in Quezon

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Plans are afoot to put up a Coconut Industry Research and Development Center in Quezon province’s Bondoc Peninsula following the support of various government agencies, a provincial official disclosed on Wednesday.

The concept for the establishment of the coco center is being crafted through the support and assistance of the departments of agriculture, trade and industry, and science and technology, and other government agencies, Quezon Provincial Administrator Romulo Edaño Jr. said.

Edaño said that the coco R&D center is considered a “legacy project” of Governor David Suarez, whose governance thrust is to improve the coconut industry in the province, which is the country’s leading coconut producer.

“Because of this coconut center, we could also enhance the coconut agriculture sector and improve the marketing network of the coconut products, which would be given priority by the research and development facility,” he added.

He said the governor had directed the setting up of the coconut center project as proof of the provincial government’s thrust to help coconut farmers and further boost the coconut and agriculture sector for inclusive development.

Edaño also announced other calendared activities such as the formal “graduation” of the drug surrenderers under the “Yakap Bayan” program on Dec. 11 after the rehabilitation program that included training courses on livelihood, disaster preparedness and other capacity and skills-building projects.

He also informed of the provincial government’s formal turnover of vehicles and equipment to the Quezon police force.

The provincial administrator also said that 11 more Quezonian soldiers would be honored during fitting rites after their deployment to Marawi City. (Gideon Belen/PNA)
