Senate asks public to be vigilant vs. fake socmed accounts

By Katrina Gracia Consebido

Senate Secretary Atty. Renato Bantug Jr. on Friday, Aug. 5 said the Senate has been made aware about several Facebook and LinkedIn accounts using its name and seal “to post inaccurate, misleading, and inflammatory content.”

In a statement, Bantug said the pages are using the name “Senate of the Philippines.”

“We take this opportunity to remind the public that the official Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages of the Senate of the Philippines are verified accounts and bear the ‘blue check marks’ that indicate authenticity. The Senate of the Philippines does not have an official LinkedIn page,” he said.

“We have already reported this matter to Facebook/Meta and LinkedIn and we trust that they would act promptly,” he added.

Bantug said “appropriate measures against unauthorized use” of its name and seal will be made.

“We ask for vigilance against fake social media accounts and false information,” he said.

The public was told to refer only to the Senate’s official website, or its verified Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.  –ag
