Veteran actress Cherie Gil dies at 59

Veteran actress Evangeline Rose “Cherie” Gil Eigenmann passed away on Friday, Aug.5. She was 59.

Gil was the only daughter of actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, and sister to co-actors Michael de Mesa and Mark Gil.

Known for her antagonistic roles, she was dubbed as the “La Primera Contravida” in the showbiz industry.

She made numerous films and primetime shows. Gil also performed in theater plays.

Among her iconic movies were the “Bituing Walang Ningning” with her co-star Sharon Cuneta and classic film “Oro, Plata, Mata.”

Gil bagged various acting awards and was nominated by many award giving bodies during her active years in the industry.

She moved to New York months before she succumbed to cancer. –KC/gb
