The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Thursday, Aug. 11, that the implementation of the expanded number coding scheme will resume on Monday, Aug.15, in the National Capital Region.

The Expanded Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) will start from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays except holidays.

According to MMDA, the reimplementation of the number coding scheme is part of its preparation to decongest traffic for the resumption of face-to-face classes this month.

MMDA Acting Chairperson Engr. Carlo Dimayuga III said they will start the dry run from Aug. 15 to 17, and will begin apprehending and issuing traffic violation tickets on Aug. 18.

Exempted from the number coding scheme are the public utility vehicles (including tricycles), transport network vehicle services, motorcycles, garbage trucks, fuel trucks, marked government vehicles, emergency vehicles, and motor vehicles carrying essential and perishable goods.

Meanwhile, existing number coding ordinances of the respective local government units will prevail on secondary roads.

The MMDA said the daily average of vehicles along EDSA was at 405,000 before the COVID-19 pandemic. -ag
