Coca-Cola, ARC, PepsiCo confirms sugar shortage

Coca-Cola Beverage Philippines, Inc., ARC Refreshments Corporation, and Pepsi Cola Products Philippines confirmed on Tuesday, Aug.16, they are facing refined sugar shortage- a main ingredient on the majority oftheir products.

In a joint statement, the three beverage companies announced that they are lacking sugar supply, and that they are already “working closely” with their stakeholders to address their  situation.

“We are working closely with other stakeholders of the industry and the government to address the situation,” the statement said.

They also acknowledged the consumers for the understanding and their continuous patronage to their products.

“We thank our customers and the public for their continued support to out products and for their understanding.”

According to Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association President Steven Cua, the beverage companies said they “cannot assure” an ample supply of soft drinks as some particular sizes of drinks are currently out of stock.

“Hindi nag-cut ng orders, pero in particular sizes lang walang stock. Ang sabi lang is, they cannot assure us of ample supply of particular sizes,” he said.

Meanwhile, earlier in July this year, the Department of Agriculture suggested to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to start sugar importation to address the scarcity of sugar in the country. -Report from Clay Pardilla/KC-bny
