DSWD-NCR temporarily halts educational aid distribution

By Gabriela Baron

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) has temporarily halted on Saturday, Aug. 20, its educational assistance distribution, citing health and safety protocols issues.

During the first day of the P500-million aid distribution on Saturday, people swarmed outside DSWD offices nationwide. Some even lined up outside the agencies a night before they started releasing the cash aid.

Up to three students per indigent family will receive cash aid worth P1,000 for an elementary student, P2,000 for high school, P3,000 for senior high school, and P4,000 for a tertiary student enrolled in a college or technical-vocational school.

The financial assistance will be available in the DSWD central, regional, provincial, and other local offices every Saturday until Sept. 24.

Social Welfare Sec. Erwin Tulfo, however, said an extension will be implemented “when need arises.”
