By Gabriela Baron

A jail chief inspector from Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) prison in Pototan, Iloilo was sacked after persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) climbed the roof of the district jail, protesting the alleged lack of food in their prison.

Over a hundred PDLs climbed onto the roof carrying placards that read “Gutom kami, layas ward.”

In a statement, BJMP Spokesperson JSupt. Xavier Solda said they already have an ongoing dialogue with the PDLs.

Solda assured that BJMP Chief Jail Director Allan Iral directed the Regional Director of BJMP Regional Office VI to attend to the concerns of PDLs.

Iral also announced that Jail Chief Inspector Norberto Miciano was already relieved from his post “to give way for an impartial investigation.” –ag
