Pres. Marcos meets Singapore leaders Yacob, PM Loong

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, met Singapore President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said boosting the country’s tourism was among the things discussed during the meeting.

“‘Yung mutual agreement natin, ‘yung standardization ng health certificates natin, well, that eases travel restrictions between the two countries. So it bolsters tourism both to the Philippines and to Singapore. So it’s mutually beneficial, direct ‘yan, and immediate,” Angeles said.

Marcos also attended the Philippine Economic briefing led by the Department of Finance and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas where he discussed developing the transportation system and modernizing the aviation, sea ports, and improving infrastructure.

Marcos said the government will continue to focus on the agriculture sector to ensure food security.

“In the next few years, our economy is expected to outperform our regional peers. My administration is committed to establishing an even more competitive business climate conducive to high-value investments. More investments translate to higher economic activity, more jobs, and a better life for all Filipinos,” he said.

“We invite strategic investors from the international community to take part in the Philippines’ economic resurgence. We will change the game by structural reforms that we have set in place to allow for wider participation in our industries,” he added.

Marcos also attended a roundtable meeting with the members of the Singapore business community to encourage them to invest in the Philippines.

Marcos will conclude his State Visit today and is expected to arrive back in the country tonight after his four-day State Visit in Indonesia and Singapore. -Report from Mark Fetalco/KC – gb
