‘Inday’ not affecting weather yet; ITCZ to bring rains

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

Tropical Storm (TS) Inday is still not affecting the country’s weather and sea conditions but some areas in the Visayas and Mindanao will get dampened with rain showers due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the weather bureau said Thursday.

“Inday”, which is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) either Sunday or Monday, is unlikely to directly affect the country’s weather condition within the forecast period.

However, it could possibly cause moderate to rough seas over the seaboards of extreme northern Luzon starting Saturday. These conditions may be risky for those using small sea vessels.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is advising mariners to monitor for updates, and take precautionary measures when venturing out to the sea.

“Inday” packs maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It was last tracked 1,215 km. east of Central Luzon, moving westward at 15 kph.

Meanwhile, the ITCZ will cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and BARMM.

Flash floods or landslides are possible due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail over the entire archipelago, PAGASA said. (PNA
