The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Wednesday, Sept. 14, the beginning of the construction of the P187 million academic building of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Main Campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

The construction of the building will address the classroom and learning facilities shortage of the institution.

According to DPWH National Capital Region Director Nomer Abel Canlas, the new nine-storey building will replace the former six-floor structure to accommodate its students and personnel.

“We are as excited as the students in the reopening of schools and return of in-person classes, and one of them ways we are welcoming back our Iskolar ng Bayan is by providing them a bigger, better learning environment,” Canlas said.

The DPWH said the first phase of the school building project with a funding of P187.3 million will start with the North wing. The DPWH targets to complete it within 12 months.  –ag
