PBBM on Taiwan tensions: Dialogue, diplomacy must prevail

By Katrina Gracia Consebido

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said dialogue and diplomacy “must prevail” as he expressed alarm over the ongoing tensions in the Taiwan Strait.

During his speech at the Asia Society forum in New York on Saturday, Sept. 23, Marcos stressed the importance of keeping communications in establishing peaceful resolutions.

“We urge all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint. Dialogue and diplomacy must prevail,” Marcos said.

“We adhere to the One China Policy and have consistently called for the peaceful resolution of the issues involving Taiwan,” he added.

Tensions over Taiwan are rising over a visit by United States (US) House Speaker Nancy Pelocy, which furthered strained relations between US and China.

Marcos also vowed to continue working toward strengthening the partnerships among Southeast Asian countries, as well as to uphold regional peace and security. – gb
