Pres. Marcos: Calls for Remulla’s resignation has ‘no basis’

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said that the calls for the resignation of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla are baseless following the arrest of his son over illegal drug involvement.

In an ambush interview, Marcos said Remulla is doing his job well that he is not convinced that he should not resign.

“I think the calls for him to resign have no basis. You call for somebody to resign if he’s not doing his job or that they have misbehaved in that job,” he said.

“And I think that being the Secretary of the Department of Justice, he’s very aware that he must allow the processes of the judiciary to work properly and that no one in the judiciary should interfere,” he added.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized on Thursday a total of P1,311,800 worth of high-end marijuana from Juanito Jose Diaz Remulla III, Remulla’s eldest son.

Remulla III is now facing multiple charges for violating the Section 4 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, Article 2 of Republic Act (RA) 9165, and Section 1401 of RA 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

According to PDEA Spokesperson Director Derrick Carreon, Remulla will face life imprisonment and penalty amounting to P500,000 to P10 million. –With reports from Mark Fetalco and Katrina Gracia Consebido
